MÉRMIGAS [Μέρμικας] is the Greek word for ant—a partner to the cicada in the classic Aesop fable Ο Τζίτζικας και ο Μέρμικας [The Ant and the Grasshopper, originally cicada].
In the fable, the cicada sings and sings, savoring every moment of summer, while the ant works diligently to store food for the winter.
